I am in the process of leaving after 10 years, so I know everything you are talking about. It seemed like the first few week after I gave my notice I was shunned and ignored by mom, but now it is all back to normal thank goodness. I am hoping this last month is wonderful.

I'm really happy for you , Alice. I know how much the classes you were taking meant to you and being able to connect with your classmates. I sit here wishing I was brave enough to go back to school and get some kind of degree. Maybe I will someday :)

I so remember Jack...he roasted in summer and froze in winter :) Remember when he bit the eraser off the pencil? I was telling Kidlet #3 about Jack when we were at the pet store.

Savings Toolbox: That is a great point and the best hands off approach. Before interest rates dropped, changing banks was well worth the additional time of setting a new account.

online savings accounts are a great way to "hide" money from yourself. Automatic deposits are the way to go, and the 3-5 day delay in getting funds helps to insure you don't spend it on junk.

I remember my Jack Dempsey - He lived in black water in a tiny octagon tank back home while I was off at college. I think he got fed once every 2 weeks. Somehow he survived, and was rewarded with a huge tank and tons of food and love from my friend who adopted him. "Jack" lived 6 years. I really thought he was going to live forever after his college experience.

One thing to be aware of, is that banks who change their rate to jump to the top of the interest rate ladder are just trying to get new money and will lower their rates in the near future. It's a better idea to get an online savings account at a bank which has consistently stayed with high interest rates.

Sherri,
You will do fine. Remember they will survive without you no matter what they say or the anger/guilt they can possibly project to you.

You have to do what is good for you and your mental well being. No matter how difficult.

I can say that after a year of being gone I have seen my kids I think 3 or 4 times and I live 15 mins from them. They have never called me to babysit etc. But you know I am ok with that, bc they know where I am and know that I would babysit if I am available. I think from what I have heard they are still bummed that I left.

I wouldn't go back for anything I think. I love my new job and life here.

Good luck!
