Many of you know that I have been with a few direct sales businesses. I have loved them each for what they brought to my life. The one that was the biggest was, Big Yellow Box by Crayola. It folded August 31, 2007. BYB has left me with so many yellow boxes, crayons, markers, color wonder and model magic that I could outsell Crayola at this point. I had joined Longaberger, so I could get the purse for 99 bucks instead of $150. I ended up with probably 15 or more baskets. I even have the complete Sunny Day Picnic Basket Set that was $360. I joined Taste of Home Entertaining, strictly to make money because BYB drained money from me. Well that didn’t work out to well for me. So now I am selling what I don’t want from the set and the extras I bought. I am currently with Stampin Up! I love SU, because I am creative and enjoy the outlet it gives me. I do it mainly as a hobby.
Well in two weeks I am going to PA to a yard sale with my friend’s church. I am going to be selling all my BYB, Crayola, Taste of Home Entertaining, Longaberger, Creative Memories and Southern Living at Home stuff. This really doesn’t even account for all the little piddly stuff I have. I have more office supplies than Staples or Office Depot at this time. I am getting rid of that stuff too.
Today my friend and I went to my storage units (I have 3..small ones 2-5×5, 1-5×10) I am planning on getting rid of the 5×5 as soon as the yard sale is over. We practically cleared out the 5×10 today ,condensed, sorted into boxes for the yard sale, and emptied boxes. We also reorganized the one 5×5 too that will be emptied shortly. I couldn’t get everything into my car. I did get my Longaberger, Creative Memories, and a few other things in there. I have to go through that stuff in the next day or two and compact it down into lots to sell. She thinks I can get rid of both of my 5×5s by the end of the summer. My financial manager will be so thrilled to hear this. I was to get rid of them by December 31, 2007. 8 months late , is better than nothing.
Tomorrow I go back with another friend, and we will go through all my Crayola things and price them. I have little crayola tin boxes for pencils, Crayola Calculator pencil boxes, mugs, tin boxes with 24 pack crayons, over 280 boxes of 24 ct crayons (paid no more than 25cents a piece), a case of 64 box crayons (48 of those), a classpack of various colored Model Magic (75 individual packs) and another tote filled with various thin markers, colored pencils, thick markers etc (never paying more than a dollar a piece) and then I have tons of Color Wonder packs, Color Explosions, Model Magic.
Sometimes I want to cry thinking about all the stuff I have, but when it was all purchased BYB was going awesome, my business was awesome and I was excited. Then things changed. I consider this a great life lesson. What that lesson is; I am not quite sure completely yet :) Maybe it is the simple fact that in 2 weeks some little kid is going to get a crapload of crayons for dirt cheap and become the next Picasso.
The past 3 days I have been having sinus issues with the pollen and the weather change. I have gone through 2 boxes of Kleenex. My nose resembles Rudolph and I am ready for a cold shower so that I can go to sleep. I lost a few days of working on my storage unit stuff because of this sinus stuff. It is frustrating. I have 2 great friends who love organizing, thank god! Otherwise I would be paying for storage units for ever and ever!
I will post pictures when I am done so you can see the order of things progressing. I wander if we should take bets on how much money I get at the yard sale. Oh that night my friend and I are going to the casinos to celebrate getting rid of all my stuff. ![]()
