One Tree Hill & Nanny Carrie

As I have mentioned earlier, with my job I get to watch lots of fun things with the kids.  Well Kidlet #3 is obsessed with shows life CSI: Miami, Criminal Minds, Notorious, and other crime solving type ones.  Interestingly though he doesn’t watch Law & Order.  Anyways I digress, last summer, he was watching some of his older siblings’s dvds of One Tree Hill.  Anyways he was asking someone (his sibling)  what “rape” was.  So at that point OTH was beginning it’s 5th season, and I was going to have kidlet/nanny bonding while watching One Tree Hill at 9pm on Tuesdays.   Now mind you I have never watched this show.  I never even watched Dawson’s Creek either.   I just watched Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars this year and last year.  So I am a little behind in my teenage dramas.

Basically this is season 5, all the kids went to high school together and it is now 4 years after college apparently.  You know how they progress kids on soaps, well they do it on nighttime teen dramas too.     There is a couple Nathan and Haley, they were teenage sweethearts, got married in high school and had their son, Jamie.  Now Haley is a high school teacher back at Tree Hill where everyone grew up.   So she finally decides to get a nanny.  Nanny Carrie is your basic long flowing brunette, tall, skinny twentysomething female.   Nanny Carrie takes an instant liking to Nathan the dad, who by the way is on crutches bc he is recovering from going through a glass window (season 4 apparently).   Nanny Carrie not only takes care of Jamie but also Nathan. Blah blah….One night she goes skinny dipping in the pool, and guess who happens to look out his bedroom window to the pool? You are correct-Nathan.   This little Nanny Carrie ploy for Nathan goes on for a few episodes.   She tells him to close his eyes one time because he has something on his eyelid and kisses him.   Now remember I am watching these episodes with Kidlet #3 and sometimes Kidlets #1 & #2.   Kidlet #1 is saying yeah right she would be doing that, she would sooooooooooo be fired. I just crack up laughing because of how bad they are portraying nannies in this show.  Nanny Carrie also jumps into the shower with Nathan once too, and he kicks her out of the shower.  Somehow Haley finds out about the kiss etc and fires Nanny Carrie. Nanny Carrie says it was Nathan and not her.  (sounds like the Rob Lowe nanny story going on right now). Oh Nanny Carrie visits Jamie at preschool one day while he is out in the play yard (where were the teachers???).  She tells him that she misses him and she somtimes pretends he is her son etc.  She also tells Jamie that his momma, Haley, doesn’t like her and that is not allowed to see him anymore.  Flashforward to later that night, and Jamie tells his momma that he hates her because she won’t let him see Nanny Carrie.  He runs away saying I wish Nanny Carrie was my momma.    The following week, everyone is gathered for Lucas and Lindsey’s wedding (other characters)  and Jamie ends up going to the bathroom by himself in the church, and guess who is there-Nanny Carrie.  Nanny Carrie tells Jamie to come with her and they are going to go on an adventure.   She takes him to a hotel and starts dying his hair from blonde to black.  She tells him they are going to pretend that they are momma and son.  Little does she know that Jamie’s granddad, who of course just got out of jail for murder, saw her take him.  He rescues Jamie and takes him home to where everyone in Tree Hill NC has gathered because they are so worried about Jamie.

So I spend one hour a week watching a wonderful hollywood filled drama that depicts nannies as a husband and child stealers.  Atleast Kidlet #3 said that when Nanny Carrie kissed Nathan she would soooooooo be fired for that.    I told him that this really doesn’t happen with true professional nannies.

Moral: Beverly Hills 90210 was really not that bad with all the Dylan and Brenda breakups :)  TV dramas for teens has not strayed too far from BH 90210, they just have added alot more sex, drugs and teen pregnancies etc.
