Wow I am excited about this new program that the Giant Foods by us has installed. It is called easyShop and it is only for BonusCard holders.
When you come in you scan your bonus card.
Pick up the scanner that is lit up on the scanner board.
Pick up some bags if you didn’t bring your blue tote bag from Giant.
As you go around the store, you scan the barcodes and bag your groceries.
The scanner will also tell you what items have extra sales on today. Today I got an additional $1 off any Coke 12 pack. I saved $4 when I bought four 12 packs of Diet Coke.
When you are finished bagging/shopping you go to any cashier or a self check out aisle. You punch in your bonus card again and it pulls up your account. It shows you how much everything is and asks you to pay for it.
It took a bit of time to bag things in the plastic bags, because I forgot our blue tote bags. I think if you have 3-4 of the blue tote bags you can do this very fast.
It is definitely a way for Kidlet #3 to come to the grocery store with me, since he hates grocery shopping.
I loved it and will definitely be using it again in the future at this store. I do see that it is kinda of the downfall potentially for cashiers at grocery stores as more and more stores adopt this “self checking/bagging” system. I know that Bloom stores have it already.
When I was at my old job, I had 3-4 cashiers that I loved going to at the Giant. Miss Debbie, Miss Dottie, the other Miss Debbie, and Mr. Bill. Since I have moved to a new job, I have not found the same level of cashiers at the Giant stores on my end of the world, so the easyShop is a great solution for me till I find a great cashier again!

By the way, I’m not a nanny. We have this at our local Staunton, VA Martins, which is the almost same concept as a Giant but just a different name. But the Harrisonburg store doesn’t have EasyShop, only the self-checkout area.
I’ve been very pleased with the easyShop system ever since Martins opened. It seems to be very efficient, especially if you hate the hassle of long checkout lines because of a big purchase.
The processes and system compared to Giant seems identical. Scan bonuscard, take bags, scan as you go. And all you need’s a Bonuscard, which is free.
It tells you of any BonusBuy or Bonuscard sales and savings on the products you’ve scanned and it gives you a total, so you can keep up with how much you’re spending.
When you’re finished, you go to the self-checkout area and scan the “EasyShop END of ORDER” sign and return the scanner to the cashier. They’ll make transfer the info from the scanner to the appropiate checkout unit. Then, just pay and go.
If you have coupons, yes, you can use them. Right before you pay, the self-checkout unit will ask you if you have any coupons. If you do, select yes, scan the coupons on the scanner and insert them into the coupons slot next to the return cash slot.
It’s easy, quick and free. This is why I love shop-
ping at Martins.

Hi. I notice that the link you had for EasyShop was incorrect. Here is the correct link: http://www.giantfood.com/our_stores/tools.htm
It’s listed on the link above as “ScanIt!”
Thanks!
