On Friday, Kidlet #3 had his first official guitar lesson. He is renting a 3/4 Yahama guitar for now. He will have a weekly 45 minute lesson at this teacher’s house nearby. We just needed to get a tuner for the guitar. So I head up to the music store and get one for $20.
We arrive at the lesson, and the teacher takes the tuner and starts to tune the new guitar. He special ordered it for the kidlet. I learned how to tune the guitar a bit. I decided to leave while they had the lesson.
When I came back, the kidlet had a notebook with some songs started “Love Me Do” and “Eleanor Rigby” by the Beatles. Kidlet didn’t really know who the Beatles were, which was amusing to me. He was to work on chords and tuning the guitar over the next week before our next lesson the 28th.
Friday night I spent a good 15mins with him trying to tune the guitar. That was incredibly fun. It picks up every noise :)
Then about an hour ago, I went upstairs to remind him about the orthodontist appointment after school tomorrow, and he was getting his guitar out to practice. I asked him if he wanted me to help him with his tuning. He said yes. Little did I realize it was going to take us 30 mins to tune it tonight. He was losing patience with the tuning quite quickly. I was as well actually. I realize that it will get easier and faster as we continue lessons and learn things.
I set the timer for 20 minutes for him to practice. I heard him play for maybe 10 minutes. Tomorrow he will play for 20 minutes for sure.
I never realized that when I found the guitar teacher for the kidlet that I would be signing up for at home lessons on the guitar too!
moral: Never go upstairs on a Sunday night or else I will be assisting with tuning the guitar ![]()
