Life as a Nanny - among other things

Ladder of Trust

August 5th, 2008 · No Comments

Recently on one of my nanny groups, there was a nanny whose charge lies and lies about basically everything.

I have to say that I am lucky that in my 13 years of nannying I have never really had a straight out lie to your face liar.   Now kidlet #3 will lie or omit the truth. But I turn the tables on the kidlet.  I ask him if he is being serious or not.  If he says he brushed his teeth, I say open up and let me see etc.

Another nanny offered some advice that worked with her charge when they were caught lying from time to time…the Ladder of Trust.

Every SINGLE time you lie, you go BACK down to the bottom of the ladder. Then you
tell the truth and you start climbing the rungs of the ladder.

This just painted a clear picture in my head to explain to my kidlet next time he lies or anyone for that matter.  Maybe this visual will help you deal with a liar.
