One kid promised no more school on Fridays. They get out at 12:30 now anyways.
Another wanted a football team or a flag football team.
Then one kid who was last, apparently said “I can’t make promises I can’t keep. But I can promise to do my best.” So kidlet #3 really liked this candidate because they didn’t make false promises but they promised to do their best. Isn’t that what politics should be about?
Kidlet also is bummed because only the 8th graders can be on the student council. He feels that they should have representatives from each of the grades K-8th grades. We discussed how he could write to the new student council and make this a suggestion to them. He liked this idea a lot. He also mentioned they don’t have a suggestion box or if they do nobody uses it because they don’t know where it is.
Tonight as I write this the Presidential Debate is on in the background. I am looking as my kidlet did this week in his elections at school for the best candidate who can make promises that they can keep and to do their best while in office. Is that possible? Who knows. I do hope that each of them comes to the table with solid potential solutions to our nation’s crisis.
